Happy Thursday, friends! We’ve almost made through the week. Yay!
Today I wanted to talk to you about my quick ‘Mommy Makeup’ Routine and why I wear makeup every day. Yes, you read that right. Every day! Okay, I do give myself a break sometimes to let my skin breath, but for the most part, everyday.
As some of you may know, I have a background in esthetics. Doing my makeup and getting ready for work was one of my favourite parts of the day. I was always trying new makeup products, playing with different looks, and testing out the newest trend. Not to mention, my nails were always painted and my hair always curled! There was basically a picture of me in the dictionary under ‘girly-girl.’
Then I became a Mom.
I’ve been home now for almost 2 and half years with my Son. My whole getting ready routine has certainly changed, but I still put on my makeup every day! Here’s why:
-Before becoming “Mom,” I did my makeup out of pure enjoyment. It was something I did that made me feel good and gave me confidence. I had fun with it, and it just plain made me happy!
-On days where motherhood seems to be getting the best of me, or I’m tired from lack of sleep, makeup gives me that little boost to make me feel more like a human and less like a zombie.
My 5 Minute Mommy Makeup Routine
All of us mama’s know the pain that is trying to get ready with a toddler at your feet. Sometimes I end up throwing my hands in the air and giving up. But I’ve got my simple, no fuss mommy makeup routine down to a fine art these days! It literally takes me 5 minutes, and although it may not be glamorous, I still feel fabulous! The best part is, everything I use can be found at the drugstore! Sorry Sephora, this mama doesn’t have the luxury of spending money on you anymore.
Here’s what I do on the daily:
Step 1: Prime
My skin is pretty oily, so I use a mattifying primer. I love this one from Nyx Cosmetics. It the perfect base for my makeup to go on smoothly and keeps my skin from getting too oily throughout the day.
Step 2: Foundation
If my skin is behaving, I’ll often skip this step to save time. But if I’m experiencing a little redness and just want to even things out, I’ll use this Physicians Formula Cushion Foundation. It’s light as air, provides medium-buildable coverage, and has a gorgeous natural finish! I like to apply it with my Beauty Blender.
Step 3: Concealer
Hello under-eye circles! I’ve never been a great sleeper, and since becoming a mom I feel like I pretty much don’t sleep at all. Which is totally unnecessary since my boy sleeps like a teenager. I recently discovered this Covergirl concealer and absolutely love it. It’s long wearing and has a nice coverage that cancels out discolouration. Perfect for under eyes, blemishes and redness!
Step 5: Powder
Because of my oily skin, I like to set my makeup with a pressed powder. This is another old favourite from Covergirl that helps keep my makeup matte and last throughout the day. A quick swipe with a powder brush is all it takes!
Step 6: Blush
I never skip blush. It’s probably one of my favourite makeup products. It just brings a little life into your skin and helps you look more awake! I love this peachy colour from Milani Cosmetics.
Step 7: Brows
I blame post partum hair loss for these patchy looking things. After filling them in a bit, I feel so much better. My preference is a a brow pencil because it just seems to give me the most natural look. This is my current fave from Maybelline!
Step 8: Lashes
Mascara is my best friend. Along with my hair and eyebrows, my lashes even took a hit. They’re not as full as they used to be, but with the help of a little L’Oreal mascara I feel like a million bucks!
Step 9: Lips
I usually only wear lipstick for special occasions these days, but I still like to take care of them by using something moisturizing. This dry Winter air just sucks mine dry! My favourite is this Vaseline Cocoa Butter for keeping them hydrated.
I know this sounds like a lot of steps, but it’s so quick in the morning when you just want that extra pep in your step. What does your mommy makeup routine consist of?
