I was definitely not one of the lucky ones that was blessed with beautiful, flawless skin. Growing up, I hated looking in the mirror some days. All I could see were the little bumps all over my face from having excessively oily skin. This of course worsened to full on acne and breakouts. I really shouldn’t complain, because I know it could have been much worse. After high school and college, I was looking forward to my skin clearing up. After all…I was adult now. Adults don’t get acne! But I waited. And waited. And kept on waiting.
In my mid-twenties, my skin was mediocre. Still super oily, but I only got regular breakouts around that time of month. Let’s also throw in the fun skin changes that come with having kids. I had beautiful skin all throughout my pregnancy. However, after I had my Son and the hormones started raging, my skin played some really nasty tricks on me. I feel like I’ve tried every product under the sun trying to find that “miracle” product. And although I still get the occasional ugly bump, now that I’m in my thirties, I think my skin is finally starting to smarten up. Thanks to Miracle 10 Skincare! Today I’m sharing my daily skincare routine for oily/acne prone skin.
I started using Miracle 10 about 2 years ago. I was really impressed with the results, but being a beauty blogger, I’m always on the lookout for new exciting products to test out. Around the time I stopped using these products, I also stopped breastfeeding. My face broke out into a frenzy and I felt like I was back in high school. My oil production was out of control and my breakouts seemed never ending. As soon as one would heal, the next would pop up. If you’re reading this, I’m sure you’ve probably been there before!
Skincare Routine for Oily/Acne Prone Skin
I have fallen in love with this set for my skin type. I like having the travel size because we make lots of quick trips to visit family. These are easily packed in my toiletry bag and last me about 3 months. Keep in mind that you need to try out a product for at least one month before deciding whether or not it’s working. The first time I tried these products, I definitely wasn’t convinced it was working. After several weeks I started noticing big changes. For the better!
Cleansing and Toning
I love that this cleanser is so gentle, yet effective. I wet my face and use one pump of product to remove my entire face of makeup. It doesn’t really lather up, so I did initially question how well it was going to work. But after working it into my skin, I could see the makeup dripping into the sink. After I’ve rinsed my face, I follow with a toner to rebalance the ph levels in my skin. This is probably my favourite part of my skincare routine. I pump it onto a cotton pad or just into my hand and swipe it across my skin. I know my cleanser has done a good job when there is basically no makeup on the cotton pad! My skin feels clean and refreshed.
As an oily-skinned girl, I like something extra light weight. Something that’s not going to clog my pores or feel greasy. This light serum is chalk full of vitamins, is oil-free and and sinks right into my skin while still leaving it feeling hydrated.
Nighttime is when your products can really get to work. This duo is great for treating breakouts and keeping oil production at bay. The AHA gel works to exfoliate skin to keep it clear and reduce the appearance of fine lines. After applying the gel, I use Veil which creates a barrier to keep moisture in while also preventing too much oil production. I used to wake up in the morning with a greasy face because I overproduce oil. Since these products keep my skin hydrated properly, I wake up with almost zero oil on my face!!
Exfoliate and Treat
Once or twice a week I use an exfoliator in the shower. I have pretty tough skin, so I like a gritty scrub to really get my pores clean. The No. 7 Total Renewal gets my skin feeling so smooth. Just don’t overdo it. If used too often, your skin might get irritated. I also use a mask to pamper my skin. I like this one from Vichy because it draws out impurities with it’s purifying ingredients and gets rid of excess oil leaving my skin looking nice and matte.
If you have more severe breakouts, Miracle 10 also has some great product options for spot treating, etc. For myself, I found that these products alone have made a significant difference in the texture of my skin and it feels glorious. Once I stopped worrying so much about treating the acne, and more about treating the root problem (oil), my skin has been so much better.
